MORE PARENTS FINED FOR SCHOOL ABSENCES
The number of parents in Norfolk, fined for taking their children away from school during term time, is higher than ever.
The rise of over 60 per cent in penalty notices, for unauthorised school absences, is the second highest in the country. The total went up in Norfolk during 2018-19 to 6,974 from 4,257. The previous highest was just over 5,200
CYCLE PATHS PLAN FOR TOWN CENTRE
A major expansion of cycle paths in Diss is included in a new strategy to reduce traffic congestion in the town.
Over 20 different schemes have been shortlisted to help ease bottlenecks and to cope with future growth. The strategy document also suggests that people should be encouraged to make short trips on foot or by cycle, with improved signage and small improvements in infrastructure.
WARNING OF STRONG WINDS FROM THE WEEKEND
There’s a weather warning of strong winds for the Waveney Valley from this weekend.
Winds of up to 50 miles an hour are expected to arrive late on Saturday evening and will continue through until Tuesday afternoon, with the strongest winds throughout Sunday.
DENTAL CLINIC TO EXPAND
A dental practice in Diss is looking to expand and offer its services to more patients.
Diss Dental Health Centre is reacting to increasing demand, with no places available in the town for NHS patients. The centre is planning to convert a house next door to its building in Mount Street into extra treatment rooms, with a reception and waiting area.
TOWN’S GAME CALLED OFF
There’s no game for Diss Town in the Thurlow Nunn first division north at the weekend. Their away match against Kings Lynn Reserves on Saturday has been called off by the home side.
