VOTING GETS UNDERWAY ON ELECTION DAY
Voting has been taking place in the general election.
Polling stations have been open around Norfolk and Suffolk since early this morning in wet and windy conditions. Voting will continue until ten o’clock this evening, with most results expected overnight.
Conservative MPs are expected to retain their seats in South Norfolk, Central Suffolk, Mid Norfolk, South-West Norfolk and Waveney, where they all held good majorities last time.
Main competition is coming from Labour as ell as the Liberal-Democrats and Greens, who performed well in recent local elections, especially in Suffolk.
MAIN ROAD RE-OPENS AFTER FATAL ACCIDENT
The A140 has been open to traffic again throughout the day, as Suffolk Police continue to investigate yesterday’s fatal crash on the main road, south of Diss.
The man who died was a van driver, whose vehicle was involved in the collision with a car and a lorry. The main road was closed for all of the day, after the accident near the Magpie Inn at Little Stonham. Police are appealing for any witnesses of the incident.
INQUIRY CONTINUES INTO BIRD DISEASE OUTBREAK
An inquiry is continuing into an outbreak of bird flu at a poultry farm near Eye.
A restriction zone of a kilometre has remained in place around Homefield Farm at Athelington.
An emergency closure of Southolt Road will last until early this evening, from Water Lane to Worlingworth Road.
There’s said to be a low risk to public health from the strain of the disease detected.
