POLICE INVESTIGATE AFTER  SAVAGE ATTACK ON A HORSE

Police are investigating the death of a horse, after a savage attack on the animal near Harleston.

An 18-year-old mare has had to be put down after it was brutally slashed, causing a large wound on the head and shoulder.  The horse was outside of its paddock in the Mendham area, when the attack happened on Tuesday afternoon.

Police say it seems to have been a deliberate attack, as a coat on the mare had been removed.  They’re urging other horse-owners locally to be vigilant.

INQUEST TO OPEN ON MAN FOUND IN CHURCHYARD

An inquest is due to open tomorrow on a man whose body was found in a Diss churchyard.

47 year old Robert Worthington was found lying in the grounds of St Mary’s church in Diss town centre in late April. He was found to have suffered a head injury, but police have said that they don’t suspect any third party involvement.

PLANS REVISED AS NEW TOWN PUB COMES CLOSER

Plans to build a new Wetherspoon’s pub and restaurant in Diss town centre have moved a step closer.

The company has now submitted revised details about the project in Kings Head Yard, overlooking the Mere.  They include a covered canopy and fixed seating booths which have been added outside the two-storey building.

It’s hoped that work can start on the £2.7 million development before the end of the year, once the plans have been passed by South Norfolk council.

WARNING ABOUT DOORSTEP SCAM

There’s a warning about a new doorstep scam in the South Norfolk area.

Police say they’re looking into reports of cold-callers at homes in the area offering insulation.  The callers claim to represent either Norfolk county council or South Norfolk council.

Police say the claims are not genuine and anyone approached should call them on 101 immediately, or telephone 999, if they feel threatened.

RUMOURS OF POSSIBLE NORFOLK SEAT FOR JOHNSON

There are rumours that the Prime MInister may switch to a safer seat in Norfolk, for the general election next month.

He’s said to be considering a change to the Broadland constituency, where the outgoing MP Keith Simpson is retiring.
