POLICE PROBE BODY FOUND IN RIVER
Police have launched an inquiry after a body was found in the River Waveney near Diss.
The body was reported in the river between Wortham and Roydon earlier this afternoon. Emergency services have been on the scene at Wortham Ling, an area of open heathland.
CANNABIS FACTORY DISCOVERED AFTER FIRE AT INDUSTRIAL UNIT
A major cannabis factory has been discovered by police, following a fire on an industrial estate near Eye.
The discovery came after the blaze broke out at a unit in Liberator Way on the Brome industrial estate late last week. Police were called out as fire crews from both Suffolk and Norfolk tackled the flames on Thursday. Officers seized a large number of cannabis plants, said to have a street value of £60,000.
They were being grown inside the building, with special lamps connected to the unit’s electirical system. No arrests have yet been made and no one was hurt in the fire.
WINDMILL WILL BE USED FOR ELECTION VOTING
An historic working windmill near Diss is to be used as a polling station in next month’s general election.
The 200-year-old Grade 2 listed building at Thelnetham will be used for voting in the West Suffolk constituency. It will replace the local village hall, which is currently undergoing a major refurbishment.
The mill will be used for the first time in a parliamentary election on December 12th, but was first used for voting in May for the European elections.
SKATE PARK WARNING IF PROBLEMS RETURN
There’s a warning that the skateboard park in Eye could be closed down again, if recent anti-social behaviour there is repeated.
Town councillors have decided to re-open the park, three months after it was closed due to problems involving youngsters. The council’s environment chairman Mike Smith says he hopes new security measures there will prevent further trouble, but action would be taken, if not.
The council is planning to put up fencing at the skate park,next to the community centre, and is looking at installing new CCTV.
TOP TWO BATTLE AT PORTMAN ROAD
There’s a top-of-the-table clash at Portman Road tonight. Ipswich Town meet current League One leaders Wycombe, with a chance to pull back the five-point gap between the two sides.
